About the role
The Resilience Officer - Redi Communities® supports communities to strengthen their capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies through the Australian Red Cross RediCommunities® program. The role focuses on building local connections, facilitating workshops and discussions to support community resilience initiatives that reflect local strengths, risks, and priorities.
Using a community development approach, working collaboratively with councils, community organisations, and emergency services, the officer guides communities through each phase of the RediCommunities® process — from engagement and assessment to action implementation, and evaluation — ensuring inclusive participation and sustainable long-term resilience outcomes that align with Red Cross humanitarian principles and emergency management frameworks.
This role requires occasional intrastate travel and may include periods of overnight stays away from home.
These roles require the successful candidates to lead work in one of the following four locations. Please clearly nominate which location/s you are applying for in your cover letter. Lucindale Naracoorte Council, City of Port Lincoln, The District Council of Yankalilla, Mid Murray Council. (travel to other locations may be required at times)
What you will bring
- Demonstrated sound technical knowledge and expertise in community development practices
- Community-Centred Approach: Listens to and values local knowledge, fostering inclusive participation and empowering communities to lead their own resilience actions.
- Sound discipline knowledge gained through experience, training or education in community development, emergency management, disaster resilience, or related fields.
- Proven ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including local councils, emergency services, community organisations, and residents.
- Experience facilitating workshops, forums, or co-design sessions that support community-led planning and action.
- Demonstrated experience working with and supporting volunteers, including fostering safe, inclusive participation.
- Experience applying strengths-based and community-led approaches in diverse settings, including regional, rural, or remote communities
