ISTA is expanding its portfolio of state‑of‑the‑art scientific services with a new Scientific Service Unit dedicated to experimental chemistry. The Chemistry Support Facility (CSF) offers an array of advanced technologies (X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy, optical spectroscopy) as well as an extensive basic equipment infrastructure spanning from synthetic chemistry to material science applications. In addition to the technical services, the CSF provides an administrative framework to support research groups with the operational aspects of experimental chemistry, such as lab planning, laboratory safety, and chemical waste management.Equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, and staffed with experienced chemists, the CSF’s mission is to enable world-class research by providing comprehensive assistance with advanced technologies, and an optimized laboratory infrastructure that facilitates safe, efficient, and innovative research.At ISTA's Chemistry Support Facility, you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing our cutting-edge equipment park and service portfolio as well as the infrastructure equipment and services. Your expertise and grasp of research methodologies will be essential for providing exceptional support to our scientists.
- Manage and oversee operations of the Chemistry Support Unit, ensuring efficient and high-quality service delivery
- Lead and develop a team of currently 4 colleagues (experts & lab managers)
- Collaborate closely with researchers, both on advanced technologies and infrastructure services
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize facility workflows and introduce innovative methods
- Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation; plan and execute regular maintenance schedules
- Provide training and user support on instrument use and good laboratory practice
- Collaborate closely with other administrative units on topics like laboratory planning, regulations, and safety
- Manage budgets and resources; prepare service quotes and handle project billing
- Keep updated with advancements in experimental chemistry, integrating relevant innovations into the facility
- Promote the facility’s capabilities to attract new research projects and foster collaborations
- Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field with significant experience
- Proven track record in managing a core facility or similar laboratory environment
- Extensive hands-on experience with relevant instruments, and expertise in analytical techniques, general knowledge of a broad portfolio of characterization techniques; Experience with use and maintenance of the instrumentation
- High level of understanding and proven working knowledge of laboratory regulations, safety standards, and good practice
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with a diverse research community
- Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken)
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage multiple tasks, and adhere to tight deadlines
- Experience in project management and budgeting
