The Role at a glance
At its heart, this is a backend-focused full-stack engineering role within an established, fast-growing insuretech company. As part of a cross-functional team of software engineers, product designers, and insurance domain experts, you will serve as a key technical contributor scaling our global insurance platform into new international markets. You will bridge clean, lightweight backend Kotlin architecture with TypeScript/React frontends and AWS cloud infrastructure, driving core technical decisions and feature delivery with a high degree of autonomy.
What you will do
-
Core Architecture: Lead the development of core platform services and REST interfaces in Kotlin using lightweight frameworks (http4k, Jdbi)
-
Serverless development: Lead the development of AWS Lambdas in TypeScript and Kotlin
-
Fullstack Integration: Connect and optimize modern frontend applications with backend APIs using TypeScript and React.js
-
DevOps: Contribute to cloud infrastructure automation using Terraform
-
Data Engineering: Evolve, optimize, and maintain operational PostgreSQL data sources
-
Third-Party Integration: Integrate 3rd-party data services using event-driven patterns
-
Technical Ownership: Drive features end-to-end, taking technical concepts from initial design through testing and production deployment.
Requirements
About you
-
Technical Breadth: Solid professional software engineering background with deep backend experience in Java or Kotlin, paired with practical experience in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and React.js
-
Data & Cloud Mastery: Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL, along with hands-on experience building on cloud-native infrastructure (AWS) using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform)
-
Architectural Versatility: Comfortable navigating microservices, monoliths, and message-oriented/event-driven patterns (e.g., AWS SNS)
-
Engineering Mindset: A champion for clean code, automated testing, CI/CD, and iterative delivery
-
Communication & Collaboration: Professional working proficiency in both English and German (written and spoken) to communicate effectively across our multi-office engineering team and regional partner stakeholders
-
Education: Degree in Computer Science, STEM field, or equivalent practical industry experience.
