The Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) is Austria’s largest non-university institution for basic research. As part of its digital transformation, the ÖAW aims to achieve a high level of quality, efficiency and automation in digital processes — both in basic research and in administration. In the course of this development, new cross-domain projects are emerging, for which we are looking for interested and qualified specialists.
Artificial intelligence is a key topic for the future: it opens up new possibilities for scientific workflows, digital services and the further development of administrative processes. To support the continued development and expansion of AI services and AI-supported applications, we are looking for a committed individual who will actively contribute to operational projects, technology evaluations and the implementation of new solutions.
You will work at the interface of research, digital transformation and the practical application of modern AI technologies, actively contributing to the development of institutional AI services.
The following position is available in the Directorate for Institutes and Infrastructure from 1 July 2026:
Junior Spezialist: in (w/m/x) Künstliche Intelligenz
Full-time or part-time / up to 40 hours per week
Your Responsibilities
Development, prototyping and further development of AI services and AI-supported applications for scientific institutes and the central administration of the ÖAW
Analysis of functional requirements and translation into conceptual and technical solution approaches
Evaluation, testing and selection of suitable AI technologies, tools and platforms, taking into account data protection, IT security and Responsible AI principles
Support for project management in planning, coordination, documentation, stakeholder management, as well as in tenders and collaboration with external partners
Communication with internal users, collection and structuring of requirements and feedback, as well as participation in strategic AI initiatives, particularly in the context of AI Factory Austria
Your Profile
Completed university degree, for example in computer science, business informatics, electrical engineering, mathematics, natural sciences or a comparable field
Initial practical experience with technologies in the field of artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, large language models, data analysis or automation
Relevant professional experience, for example in industry, business, science or project-related roles, is an advantage
Initial project management experience is an advantage
Experience with machine learning methods or AI-supported applications is an advantage
Familiarity with cloud technologies, APIs and their implementation is an advantage
Knowledge of IT security, data protection and the responsible use of AI is an advantage
Structured, independent and solution-oriented way of working
High level of teamwork skills and very good communication skills in German and English

The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 3112,58(full-time based), in accordance with the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). For part-time employment, the salary will be adjusted on a pro rata basis in line with the agreed working hours.
