The Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS) at the University of Vienna conducts basic research on the structure and function of microbiomes at an internationally leading level. We are looking for a technician (m, f, d) to support our laboratory team and offer a stimulating and family-friendly working environment.
This position is for 20 hours per week and is initially a 12-month fixed-term contract. The contract may be converted to a permanent position if both parties agree.

The focus of your tasks lies in supporting ongoing research projects. This includes the cultivation and microscopic/molecular biological characterization of amoebae and other protists, their bacterial symbionts, as well as giant viruses. You will also participate in training students on molecular biological methods and equipment, as well as in data analysis. You are an active, communicative member of our research group and support our students and scientific staff.
You hold a bachelor's degree or have completed training in the field of biology, biochemistry, or another natural science field (e.g., certified BTA/CTA technical training), or an equivalent qualification. An education at the university level is an advantage.
Prior knowledge and practical experience in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, or virology are an advantage but not mandatory.
You are accustomed to motivated, independent work with an accurate and reliable approach. You possess a high capacity for teamwork and flexibility.
You have basic IT skills (MS Office) and very good knowledge of German and English.
