As Medical Affairs Manager & MSL Lead, CVRM, you will lead medical strategy and field medical excellence for selected cardiovascular, renal and metabolic brands in Austria. You will own the integrated medical plan, lead and develop the MSL team, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to translate scientific insights into impactful, compliant medical activities.
This role combines strategic leadership with field medical leadership. You will contribute to pre-launch and lifecycle planning, evidence generation, scientific exchange, and cross-functional execution, helping to improve standards of care and patient outcomes across Austria.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
Lead medical strategy by developing and owning the integrated medical brand plan and associated budget, aligning office-based and field-based activities with CVRM objectives.
Lead the MSL team by defining the field medical strategy, recruiting, coaching, and developing team members to deliver high-quality, compliant scientific engagement.
Provide medical expertise to inform brand strategy, support pre-launch readiness, and guide lifecycle management activities.
Generate and translate insights from field engagements and stakeholder interactions into clear medical priorities, evidence needs, and action plans.
Partner cross-functionally with Market Access, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Information, Patient Safety, Diagnostics, Clinical Operations, and Commercial colleagues to ensure aligned execution.
Ensure scientific accuracy and governance by reviewing medical materials, acting as medical signatory where applicable, and supporting dissemination of study results through congresses and publications.
Plan and deliver medical education activities including advisory boards and internal scientific training, with clear objectives, documentation, and follow-up.
Support evidence generation through externally sponsored research, real-world evidence initiatives, registries, and observational studies, ensuring compliance with applicable SOPs, GCP, and audit requirements.
Oversee scientific engagement processes including timely and balanced handling of medical enquiries and appropriate escalation where needed.
Manage resources responsibly by overseeing budget and activities across office and field medical work while upholding high standards of ethics, quality, and compliance.
Essential Requirements
Minimum Master’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, life sciences, or another relevant scientific discipline; PhD preferred.
Solid pharmaceutical Medical Affairs experience, including 2-3 years as an MSL and additional experience in broader Medical Affairs roles such as Medical Advisor or Medical Affairs Manager, ideally within CVRM or a closely related therapeutic area.
Strong understanding of Medical Affairs strategy and the ability to translate data and insights into actionable plans
Proven experience in engaging with HCPs and scientific experts
Good knowledge of local regulatory and market access requirements relevant to Medical Affairs activities
Strong understanding of the legal and ethical framework for medicinal products in Austria, including the Arzneimittelgesetz, Pharmig Code, and related compliance requirements
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific information clearly to different audiences
Very good German and English, both written and spoken
Ability to work effectively independently and cross-functionally
Driving licence B and willingness to travel within Austria (approx. 30% travel)
Preferred Qualifications
Prior line management or coaching experience
Experience in cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases
An established CVRM stakeholder network in Austria
Experience supporting evidence generation, such as ESRs, RWE, registries, or observational studies
Strong project management experience
