The Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry is seeking to fill a position of University assistant predoctoral.
The group for Chemical Sensing and Rapid Analysis at the University of Vienna designs novel biomimetic recognition materials targeting analytes reaching from small molecules to nanostructures and biological systems. It is internationally reputed in the areas of polymer-based and self-organized sensor layers.
The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
The successful candidate will develop controlled synthesis strategies to obtain surface-imprinted polymer thin films and especially focus on batch-to-batch reproducibility. They will use micrometer-size templates, i.e. microparticles and bacteria. The polymer layers will be characterized both for their material properties and as sensing layers in the liquid phase, especially for electrochemical and mass-sensitive detection. For that purpose, they will use a range of instrumentation techniques (e.g. scanning probe microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, DLS, zetasizer) to characterize the materials and their interactions with the analytes.
