The successful candidate will join a dynamic international research environment dedicated to developing functional molecular architectures for light harvesting, photocatalysis, electrosynthesis, and optoelectronic applications. The research activities will focus on the design and synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heteroatom-doped graphenoid systems through the development of new synthetic methodologies based on radical annulation strategies, photocatalytic transformations, and electrosynthetic approaches. These molecular platforms will be engineered as next-generation functional materials for applications in optoelectronics, molecular energy conversion, and light-responsive technologies. The project combines advanced targeted organic synthesis, with particular emphasis on the discovery of innovative synthetic methodologies for the controlled construction of extended π-conjugated systems. Special attention will be devoted to developing radical-mediated annulation reactions that enable the rapid and modular synthesis of structurally defined PAHs, nanographenes, and molecular semiconductors with tailored electronic and photophysical properties.
The employment duration is 3 years.
The selected candidate will work on the preparation and characterization of sophisticated molecular architectures using modern synthetic methodologies, including transition-metal catalysis and radical-mediated transformations, and multistep organic synthesis. The research program further aims to establish structure, property relationships governing the electronic, photophysical, and charge-transport properties of these materials, enabling their integration into emerging optoelectronic and energy-related applications. The position, therefore, offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of synthetic organic chemistry, radical chemistry, molecular materials, and optoelectronics within a highly collaborative and internationally visible research framework.
