The professorship of Religious Studies is dedicated to the scholarly analysis of religions and religious cultures in history and the present day. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue an individual area of specialization. A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with related fields, both within the Faculty of Theology and at other faculties, for example, within the framework of the University of Vienna's research platform "Religion and Transformation," is desirable. Teaching will encompass the full breadth of the subject, providing students of the Faculty with a comprehensive understanding of religions. Involvement in the Master's program "Religion in Europe" is expected.
A habilitation (venia docendi) or an equivalent qualification ("Second Book") in Religious Studies or Intercultural Theology is required. In accordance with Section 15, Paragraph 2 of the Federal Law on the External Legal Status of the Evangelical Church in Austria (BGBi 182/1961), membership in the Evangelical Church is required for an appointment to this professorship.
